Message: Shop your local Walmart store – just one trip and you will find it all and save money. This was one of several marketing mailers that was sent periodically to customers in the greater LA area. Each time, the featured products changed as did the lifestyle image. The challenge for me as a writer was to create a headline that either spoke to the lifestyle imagery and/or the products featured. Here, because the products were a catchall, my headline focused on the lifestyle imagery, which worked wonderfully.

Message: You can find everything at your local Walmart store including items to help with your spring cleaning. Because the mix of products was similar, it made it much easier for the designer to choose an image and for me to write this perfect headline.

Company: Cost Plus World Market
Message: When this new soap arrived in our offices, we were all very excited. Not only were the scents amazing and worthy of boasting, the packaging itself was deserving of some love. Instead of throwing out the container, you could plant it, add some water and harvest herbs or flowers. I called both of these out in the copy that I wrote for this promotional piece.

Message: The messaging for this piece was twofold. First, we wanted to let customers know that bamboo is not only decorative and functional, it’s also eco-friendly. I chose to highlight this with a play of color in the headline. Secondly, we wanted to call attention to Earth Day and to encourage customers to celebrate Mother Earth.

Message: NOVICA and CPWM came together to showcase global artists and their works of art. Here, I wrote individual bios for the artists, adding quotes from interviews which they had given. I worked with the designer on a layout that would include not only the artists’ images and bios but also their crafts.

Message: Empowering Women Together acknowledges women and their businesses from near (Chicago, Illinois) and far (Phnom Penh, Cambodia). The rollout of this program took many months and included lengthy meetings with our Project Development team, Walmart’s Corporate Responsibility team and Public Relations team, and the companies who help source products. My role was to oversee several writers who wrote product descriptions. I wrote the persistent “about” copy that appeared on all of the product pages as well as the bios for some of the artists.
